Rant

Yesterday, we received a note from school regarding an event that was suppose to happen tomorrow. The original plan was to have a family brunch/open house for the Kindergarten classes, but due to lack of participation they have had to cancel the event. Not only was I looking forward to it, but the kids and other family members that planned on attending were too. I'm frustrated at the "lack of participation" on other parent's parts. The teachers always give the parents plenty of notice to upcoming events, so there is ample time to ask for time off, a longer lunch, what have you. Also they try to keep the cost down. For each person the brunch was only going to cost $4 bucks. I know times are hard, but this is something for our children. And I also realize that these days both parents work. I would hope that employers would be understanding and at least let one parent off and if that's not possible, the least the parent could do would be to pay the $4bucks. Our kids attend a charter school which means we are heavily involved in all things school. We are asked, not required to donate time, supplies, and or money. If neither myself or Jason can provide our time, then we most definitely donate supplies or money. I guess what I'm trying to say is be involved, get involved in your child's education! It is extremely important!
