Kindergarten Week 1
We've all made it through the first week of school without too many fumbles. We have a morning routine which we started about two and a half weeks before school started so that all of us could get use to it. So far, we've been on time or early. I lay out clothes and make lunches the night before so that the morning runs smoother. You'll find us up by 6/6:15am at the latest, dressed, shoes on, and hair brushed by 6:30amish, and then it's breakfast time. I would have to say that breakfast that early has really thrown the kids for a loop. They are adjusting and I'm sure that in the next week or so, will be eating a more substantial breakfast each morning. Lunchtime is the same time that we use to have it at home together. They are getting better at eating everything that is packed for them. But like most Kindergartners, they come home starving and tired from the day. The only mishaps(not really) that happened this week were Henry having an accident at school which is why all the kids are required to take an extra set of clothes everyday. And Emma did not follow lunchtime rules and was told by her teacher more than once to sit down. We talked to both of them that night and explained that they weren't in "trouble", but need to 1)stop and get permission to use the facilities and 2)obey all school rules. They both seemed to understand and said that they would do their best. We've also had water bottles switched and or forgotten at school. The kids are responsible for loading and unloading their backpacks and keeping up with their water bottles. H and E are in separate classes, but are in the same building. So they do get to see each other throughout the day. They have a morning recess and an afternoon recess with lunch in between those times as well as classroom time. They eat lunch outside everyday unless it is pouring down cats and dogs or if it is colder than 40degrees. This week was mainly getting the students familiar with school and classroom rules and the routines of the day. Next week, the learning begins:) As a matter of fact, Emma got her first homework assignment this past Friday. They both say that they are liking school and are making good friends. Emma is more forthcoming with telling us how her day went and what they learned that day, but Henry usually starts out by saying,"don't ask me questions about school!" We usually have a full report from both of them over dinner:) I'm enjoying the quiet each day, but I do miss them a lot and they say that they miss being here with me and miss Daddy. And they worry about Boots, Chance, and the lizards. So I've reassured them that our furry and reptile family members are being well taken care of while they are at school. From the time that they get home until bedtime we are almost inseparable. I'm sure that will ease up as they become more accustomed to everything. We'll see how week 2 goes.
