Merry Christmahanukwanzaakah!!!

Thanks to the wonderful world of Kindergarten and their ever growing minds, we hear some pretty unusual stuff sometimes from the kiddos. Their education is well rounded and I hope it continues to be that way. Well, last Friday was early release day, the last day of school before Christmas Break, and the Christmas program. After school we had brunch with Papa and Aunt Suza who were both able to come watch the program with us and then we came home. Later that night, perhaps as another delay tactic or maybe not, the kids came out after being tucked in and this is the conversation that ensued,

H and E-"Mommy why don't we celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa?"

Mommy-"Wha...?"

H and E-"Can we pleeeeaaase celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa AND Christmas?"

Mommy and Daddy-"Let's go to bed now and we'll talk about it in the morning."

Kids went back to bed and Jason and I just kind of looked at each other for a minute in a kind of weird shock. The next day, we did sit down and talk with them about all three. We explained that we would only be celebrating Christmas because that is what we believe in based on the faiths that we(M&D) were raised in and that's how we planned on raising them. They seemed content with that answer for now.

I did more research on Kwanzaa just to be prepared for any questions and refreshed my knowledge on Hanukkah too. And did some research on Advent. We'll wait until next year and with the help of a friend or two will show them how Hanukkah is celebrated, come up with something for Kwanzaa, and I think I'll either buy or make an Advent calender so that that too can be explained on their level.

A big thanks(giggle) to my high school friend, Shannon for combining all three!

Merry Christmahanukwanzaakah!
