In loving Memory of Buddy the Lizard

It saddens me to say that we lost Buddy the lizard yesterday. Buddy was the TX Spiny lizard that I caught for Henry in our yard almost two years ago. He was Henry's first official pet. We noticed a change in his normal behavior this past Saturday and it went downhill from there. We're not sure what happened. We all keep a close eye on all three of the lizards that we have. Instead of being his usual active self, he was being very lethargic and not eating. It may just have been his time to go. Buddy was Henry's lizard and I was a bit worried about how Henry would handle the news. I talked to Henry yesterday after school about how Buddy was doing and what might possibly happen to him. Henry took it well and said that he hoped Buddy would be okay. About an hour or so after that we went to check on Buddy and he was no more. So we found a little box to put him in, Daddy found a spot for his final resting place and dug a hole, and we all went out to the backyard and had a little ceremony. Henry did very well. We asked him if he wanted to say anything and this is what he said, "I love you Buddy. Thank you for being a good friend."

Emma said she was sorry that he was gone and told Henry that it would be okay. We told both kids that if they wanted to or needed to talk about Buddy or what happened, to just ask.

So farewell to our friend, Buddy. He was loved and will be missed. And I am thankful for his time with us. He helped teach Henry to love animals even more (whatever shape and size they may be) and how to be responsible for another living creature.
