A Special Day with Daddy

Jason took some vacation time so he could be here when his parents came to visit and so he could have some special time with the kids(and me). So we took a day last week and had a day out with Daddy and did some special stuff with the kids. We went down to Fair Park and did a self guided tour of the Museum of the American Railroad. It's a collection of steam and early diesel era trains in the US. Henry was sooo excited!!! Emma was pretty excited about it too. It's one thing to look at play choo-choos and something totally different to see the real thing up close and be able to touch it.We spent a good two hours looking and then bought an engine for each of them. After the trains we headed for the aquarium. There is a small collection at the aquarium so we decided to check it out. Emma really enjoyed it and was pointing out the fish and plant life in the tanks. Henry wanted to go either outside or back to his trains. Once we finished there we went outside again for a walk and found The Old Mill Inn Restuarant and decided to have lunch there. This place has been there since 1936. The service was great and the food was pretty good too. They serve a full menu and had some items that sounded really good, but we decided on burgers for the big kids and split a hot dog and a grilled cheese sandwich and fries between the kids. Our last stop of the day was at the Texas Discovery Gardens which are also located inside Fair Park. This one was another self guided tour so we could take our time. The kids enjoyed being outside and Jason and I enjoyed the scenery. It's late in the season so not everything was in bloom, but we did see some color. It was a good day. We all had a great time. I'm including some pictures too many to post and if you haven't been able to tell based on my recent posts; we've taken loads of pictures the last few weeks! So I hope you can stand a few more! And get this-you even get to see me a couple of times:)

Pictures from Granny and Grandpa's visit and from our time with Daddy on vacation are coming soon. Things are kind of crazy for the next few days. I'll be in Carrollton for a few days having a two family garage sale with a friend(we've had to reschedule due to weather) and the kids will be at my parents. Jason will be enjoying his last few days of vacation with a couple of friends and then we'll all be back together for a day or two before he has to go back to work. And we got a new camera and I'm still in the learning faze, but I promise to have pictures posted soon, very soon.

Granny and Grandpa Come For A Visit!!!

So...Granny and Grandpa Henriksen(Jason's mum and dad) came down from Washington state for a visit. We haven't seen them since last April when we went to visit them. So we wanted to do a couple of things while they were here and then spend the rest of the time at the house. Mom and Dad H flew in Tuesday afternoon and so we stayed home and that gave the kids a chance to warm up to them. Henry showed off in the bathtub and practically flooded the bathroom with his splashing! Emma helped of course! Wednesday, it rained/stormed most of the day so we decided to stay home that day. So we played here at the house and planned the rest of their stay. Thursday we went to get Henry and Emma's pictures taken at Target and that went a bit longer than what we thought it would. I had not made an appointment so we spent about 3 hours total at Target Thursday morning. We had fun though! We just walked the aisles slowly, talked, had a snack at the little food/snack place there and then waited for our turn for pictures. Overall the kids did really well. Emma had a lot of fun posing for the camera. Henry, on the otherhand, did not...at least not until we were almost done. Mamma and Granny handled that part while Grandpa and Daddy waited outside the studio. The pictures turned out really cute!!! We thought that the kids would go down for a nap, but it seems only a little sleep happened. Emma ended up falling asleep at the dinner table that night. It was really sweet. She kept on nodding off. And Friday we went to the Fort Worth Zoo. The weather was ok-no rain, but if it was any warmer it would have been a little too warm for us. We were kind of surprised at how busy the zoo was, but we chose to go on the same day about 5 or 6 of the school districts in our area decided to do an end of the year fieldtrip. So we hit the payment running. We aren't really big crowd people. We made it through the entire zoo in about 3 hours-not bad.The kids did really well. Emma was really interested in seeing the animals we've seen in the books at home, but Henry was more interesed in all of the kids and people running around, but he did look whenever we'd stop to look. We finished up at the zoo and headed home early in the afternoon, got the kids down for a nap, and relaxed and cooled off for the remainder of the afternoon. That evening we met up with my parents for dinner and had our own little early Happy Mother's Day celebration. The kids were great-well behaved, ate well, and didn't make a huge mess. We went back to our house and let the kids run around, got them to bed, and all the big kids visited for a little while. It was a nice night. Granny and Grandpa headed up to Oklahoma for a couple of days to visit Jason's younger sister and her husband and will come back before they fly out Tuesday night. So the time has flown by-we never seem to have enough time together, but we've loved every minute of their visit. We're hoping to go up for a visit later in the summer or be up there for Christmas this year. I've got more pictures to share and plan on taking more before they do leave for home so I'll post those later this upcoming week.

And to all the moms out there in blogland....

Happy Mother's Day!!!
