silliness

This weekend was our first weekend with no plans in months. So we stayed home with the exception of a grocery store run. SuperTarget is where we normally buy our groceries. So when we go the kids usually end up with a new toy, book, video, or something. We bought our usual and also got the kids two new dvds. A new Elmo dvd and a full length Thomas the Tank Engine movie. So Sunday afternoon after naptime, we sat down to have a snack and watch the Thomas movie. The kids had juice and goldfish crackers. We had a pallet on the floor made of pillows and blankets and were watching the movie. Jason got up and got a snack for himself. Well, kids are kids and of course wanted to have some of Daddy's snack. We have no problem sharing, but this time Jason hesitated because of what he was having. Daddy's snack was Doritos Fiery Habanero chips. Both Emma and Henry tried them. Henry had two and then went back to his goldfish crackers. Emma, on the other hand, helped Daddy finish a small bowl full of these spicy chips. What was funny was her eyes were watering the whole time, but she kept asking for more. Something tells me that Daddy and Emma will be sharing jalepeno(sp) nachos in no time. The other little bit of silliness was what happened a bit later. All four of us were laying cuddled up together watching the movie and Daddy kissed Mamma. From that point on it was a kissing contest. Who could kiss Mamma and Daddy the most. So between giggles we were covered in kisses. I'm including a few pictures from the last week or so.

Happy 30th Birthday Daddy!!! and Henry and Emma Highlights!

The original post was typed up Friday afternoon and I meant to post Saturday, but it didn't happen.

First off, Happy Birthday, Daddy(Jason)!!!!
Second, Henry and Emma have a wonderful time with Papa, Nana, and Aunt Suza!

The kids are enjoying a weekend with Nana, Papa, and Aunt Suza. Jason turns 30 tomorrow and we wanted to celebrate and planned a weekend for him. While Henry and Emma are at my parents they will be getting another haircut. Well, Emma will only get her bangs cut, but this time I requested that Henry get a "big boy" haircut. Don't panic! I already have his first curls and her first curls tucked away in a safe place. Henry's hair just grows really fast and we've gotten a few people asking if they were twin girls. So this time instead of a trim; he's getting a cut. Every day is something new. They are both climbing up into their highchairs on their own, brushing their hair, and helping either pick out what they want to wear and/or helping dress themselves. We start potty training Monday and teaching them how to brush their teeth. Emma is carrying on conversations with everyone and Henry is now starting to follow suit. We've started a reward system with both of them. They each start off the week with a blank sheet of paper and earn stickers for doing different things--picking up toys, being Mama or Daddy's helper, not taking off their diaper at nap time and making a mess on their sheets, sharing, etc. They each have half a sheet filled up so far-we just started this this past week. They both give their Daddy kisses before he goes to work each morning. And just the other day, Emma said "I love you" to Jason as he left for work. And when he came home she was talking to him and told him that she had missed him that day. And Henry corrected me a few days ago on where and what Daddy was going/doing. I just said that Daddy was going bye-bye. And Henry said, "No no, Daddy is going to go work." We are reading 3 to 4 and some times more stories a night before bedtime. We've had a rough couple of weeks-they have been pushing their limits(and mine)-typical 2 year old behavior. And then they come back the next day/ or week and are as sweet as can be. They both have this thing for ice cubes lately-Henry loves chewing on ice. And the other food craze has been cereal bars. I apologize for the rambling, but so much has been happening the last month or two. It seems that short term memory is kicking in. We were cleaning house the other day and Emma pointed to Granny and Grandpa's picture and told us(me and Henry) who they were along with other friends and family in the pictures we were dusting. I'm sure there is more, but maybe I'll remember by the next post. I've been trying really hard to enjoy all the time I spend with them(even the bad days). Jason and I are enjoying the quiet tonight, but we do miss them. I knew that being a parent was going to be a challenge and so far it has, but when I have moments that I can sit back and breath and look over the day/days with them; it just becomes more amazing to me. We have some really cool kids!

Martin Family Picnic

Our niece Catie planned a family gathering otherwise known as the Martin Famly Picnic. We met up with the family on the otherside of the metroplex at a park in Plano that has a large pavillion. The menu included fried chicken, brisket, potatoe salad, cole slaw, chips, dip, baked beans, mashed potatoes, rolls, homemade biscuits, fruit salad, seven layer salad, homemade cookies, and brownies. You could say we had the food thing covered! The kids enjoyed water ballon fights, hoola hoop contests, running around on the playground, chasing bubbles, chasing puppies(Aunt Amy brought Ranger and Riley), eating good food, and visiting with everyone there. The rain held off and it was actually pretty nice being outside in Texas at the beginning of July. We still have yet to break the triple digits this year because of all the rain. The day started off with both kids in cute little outfits, but as usual they ended up running around half naked(diapers and shoes), but happy as can be! We had a great time and as usual after having a family gathering and lots of playtime the kids were pooped. The only downer was that they are now most definately two and are pushing their limits. We spent a lot of time chasing after two little ones who would not stay in the designated area. Catie did a wonderful job organizing the event and we are very proud of her! Way to go Catie! And the only other downer was finding out that one of the storms that came through this afternoon knocked out the power at our house. Obviously it's back on, but it did make getting Henry and Emma down a bit more difficult. Once they were settled it didn't take them long at all to fall asleep. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I'd do it tonight, but it's late and I took a lot of pictures(roughly 130)- still have to sort through them, and I'm tired.
